On 8th May,2020, the NGT had taken a suo-moto cognisance against the chemical gas leak incident which took place at Vizag, Andhra Pradesh. The NGT bench headed by Chairperson justice A.K. Goel had ordered LG Polymers India Pvt. Ltd to deposit a sum of 50 Crore with the district magistrate of Visakhapatnam to which the South Korean company filed an appeal in the Top Court.

The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned this appeal filed against NGT. The Bench led by Justices U.U. Lalit, Vineet Saran and S. Ravindra Bhat deferred the National Green Tribunal (NGT) proceedings indefinitely and gave LG Polymers 10 days’ time as “last chance” to file its objections to a Joint Monitoring Committee report which was uploaded on the NGT website on May 23 highlighting various lacunae in the functioning of its Visakhapatnam plant prior to a gas leak on May 7 leaving 12 dead and several injured.
