The Supreme Court has ordered a stay on the FIRs filed against the women journalists for reporting on communal violence in Tripura, as well as served them with a notice and asked them to file a response. The journalists were covering communal tensions in Tripura as a result of recent attacks on mosques and Muslim-owned property. In their petition, the petitioners sought the dismissal of the cases filed against them. At the same time, they are demanding that the case be transferred to Delhi because their lives are in danger. As a result, the case should be moved from Tripura to Delhi. Tripura Police, the journalists were arrested for allegedly slandering the Tripura government's image. The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Gomati Judicial District, Udaipur Subhra Nath granted bail to HW News Network journalists Samriddhi Sakunia and Swarna Jha. Both were arrested for spreading false information on social media about a mosque being burned in Tripura's Gomati district and a copy of the Quran being damaged. Journalists and media rights organizations have criticized their detention and demanded their immediate release. HW News Network, their employer, also accused officials of harassment, claiming that the Tripura government was preventing them from reporting facts through harassment and press targeting.
