Protesters used chemical irritants on police as reported by officials. They penetrated the Capitol and chanted the slogans "We want Trump", "Trump won that election". Four people were reported died in the protest. Biden called this is not protest but an insurrection. "I call on President Trump to go on national television now to fulfil his oath and defend the constitution and demand an end to this siege."
The building was safeguarded by the law informants after several hours. Vice-President Mike Pence after resuming the session called this as the dark day in the history of the US Capitol. The whole world responded to this protest.
“In such circumstances, it is important that political leaders impress on their followers the need to refrain from violence, as well as to respect democratic processes and the rule of law,” UN Secretary-General's spokesman responded.
"Distressed to see news about rioting and violence in Washington DC. Orderly and peaceful transfer of power must continue. The democratic process cannot be allowed to be subverted through unlawful protests." India's Prime Minister said in a tweet.
After the protest, Trump called protestors to go home. The joint session of the Congress has certified the Biden's victory and rejected objections to the votes in the states of Pennsylvania and Arizona.
