Serum Institute announced the price for the COVID-19 vaccine, Covishield, today. While informing about expanding its vaccine making capacity for the upcoming two months. The Center government reserved the 50% production capacity of the industry. The Institute has decided to sell the remaining 50% of the vaccines to state government and private hospitals at the rate of Rs. 400 and Rs. 600 respectively. In the open market the price of bot the vaccines, Covaxin and Covishield, is estimated at Rs 1000 and the central government took the vaccine for a subsidized rate of Rs 150.
The MD of Bharat Biotech Dr Krishna Ella informed that they have not taken any money from the government and wanted to cover all the costs including the costs incurred on clinical trials. The Centre government approved the payment worth Rs 45000 cr to both these production companies. The SII will receive Rs 3000 cr and Bharat Biotech Will receive Rs 1500 cr.
