Assam government launched one-time financial assistance of 2.5 lakh to women who lost their husbands due to covid 19.
The scheme is named Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension Scheme, She was the winner of the Padma Shri Award for promoting education at the North-East Frontier Agency.
All women up to the age of 45 who have lost their husbands can avail of this scheme. Under this scheme, the government simultaneously pays the benefit amount. This scheme is only for women whose, total annual income is low or is up to 5 lakh.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said "Losing the loved ones is always painful. Our government in its bid to provide a little support at this testing time has decided to assuage the sufferings of the family members of the deceased with financial support".
Finance minister Ajanta Neog has been asked to make arrangements and allocation of funds to help covid 19 victims. According to officials, 883 women of state have been eligible (meeting the criteria of income)for holding the scheme of aid 2.5 lakh.
Before this Assam government has put forward the scheme of providing ₹ 3,500 per month for the children who lost their parents due to pandemics.

Aadhar Card, Identity card, Ration Card, Age certificate, Housing certificate, and husband's death certificate.
The following eligibility criteria have to be fulfilled to avail of the Assam Widow Pension Scheme.
The applicant should have not remarried after the husband’s death, the applicant must be above 45 years of age, the applicant must be a permanent resident of Assam, and the applicant should not getting any other aid or government pension under other government schemes.
