The Shakti Act which is followed in the lines of Andhra Pradesh's Disha Act is expected to be passed in both the houses of Maharashtra
assembly.
State home minister Anil Deshmukh tabled two bills today- Maharashtra Shakti Criminal Law (Maharashtra Amendment) Act, 2020, and Special Court and Machinery for Implementation of Maharashtra Shakti Criminal Law, 2020.
While the first bill relates to the amendments in certain sections of CRPC, IPC, and POCSO act, the second bill relates to the establishment of special courts for the trial of such cases.
The new amendment will bring down the investigation from 2 months to 15 days and the trial period from 2 months to 30 days. Also, it proposes to reduce the appeal period from 6 months to 45 days.
The new law will have the provisions of the fast track court system which will help in the delivery of justice better.
