Jaya Bachchan is a member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party and therefore she will be campaigning for the Trinamool Congress Party Candidates. She is likely to visit West Bengal on Monday and will be in West Bengal from April 5 to April 8. She will campaign for Arup Biswas, who is a TMC Candidate from Tollygunge. There is going to be tough competition from BJP Candidate, Babul Supriyo. Babul Supriyo is also a Union Minister and party MP. This development occurs as a response to a letter written by West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to opposition leaders including Akhilesh Yadav, Chief of Samajwadi Party. The letter sought “for a united and effective struggle against BJP attacks on democracy and Constitution.” And it also suggested that a meeting should be conducted after the assembly polls to “deliberate the issues and chart out a plan of action.” The letter has been addressed to several other opposition leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Congress President; NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, DMK leader MK Stalin, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, CPI (ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti.
TMC Chief stressed a need to present a credible alternative to the people of India. To date Elections in West Bengal are held in two phases, first phase polls were conducted on March 27, and the second phase polls were held on April 1. The next phase will be conducted on April 6, 2021.
