The yatra that begins with the onset of the month of Shravan around July 25 and goes on till the 1st week of August sees crores of Kanwariyas from neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh gathering in Haridwar to collect the holy waters of the Ganga.
Indian Medical Association Uttarakhand secretary Amit Khanna have written Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami requesting not to allow Kanwar Yatra this year, as it got cancelled last year as well due to first wave of Covid-19, keeping in view of public safety at priority.
According of experts, third wave of pandemic is at door of country, citizens should not be negligent. As our past negligence, results into loss of several kith and kin in second wave. It is time for us to learn from previous mistakes said the officials. It's high time for us to take care of this issue and to draw attention of crowd.
Though Kanwar Yatra is connected to the religious sentiments of people, saving life is work of government and to be safe is citizens rights. The issue has to be taken with utmost importance for the betterment of people across and it will restrain people from moving. Final decision has to be made with the consultation of neighboring states such as, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and others.
