Delhi government presented the 2021-22 budget in the assembly on Tuesday. It is 6.15% higher than the previous year budget despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, the Budget estimated at 65,000 crores while this year Budget estimates at 69,000 crores. The GSDP is contracted by 5.68% in 2020-21 and the tax collection is 40% lower than the budget estimates.
Arvind Kejriwal informed that establishment costs under the previous government used to be around 70-80 % while this year establishments cost has been kept at 45% which 55% of the budget will go directly to the welfare of people through subsidies and programs. Further informing, he told that aim of their government is to achieve the per capita income of Delhi equal to that of Singapore.
Delhi government has been presenting the surplus budget since the first budget presented by Sisodia in 2015. Delhi's outstanding debt has come down from 5.90% in 2014-15 to 3.74% in 2019-20.
