In the wake of the ongoing farmers protests near the national capital, the Bar Council of Delhi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to withdraw the recently passed Farmers Acts. In its letter dated December 2, the Bar Council of Delhi has claimed that apart from being against the farmers, the Acts are also detrimental to the interest of legal professionals.
Since the new legislation states that all disputes shall be adjudicated by SDMs/ADMs, BCD’s grievance is directed towards the bar on jurisdiction of civil courts.
BCD has stated that such surreptitious insertion of the provisions on bar on civil courts will pose a serious threat to the existing judicial institution and the principle of separation of powers.
BCD has thus urged the Prime Minister to immediately withdraw the Farmers Acts.
