
The 15th Assam Legislative Assembly started its first budget session on Monday July 12 and will continue till August 13 within 15 working days. During this session state government will introduce 14 bills, including the Assam cattle Preservation Bill 2021 all through the session.
14 Amendment bill 2021 includes, GST; Value added tax; Taxation on specified lands; profession, trades, calling and employment taxation; Electricity duty; Agricultural income tax; fiscal responsibility and budget bill; women's university; The majuli university of culture; The Bodoland university; The mahapurusha srimanta sankardeva viswavidyalaya; The Bengal, Agra, and Assam civil courts and Assam municipal bill.
The congress and All India United Democratic front demanded speaker of Assam Legislative assembly Biswajit Daimary to put forward the issue of increasing prices of petrol, diesel and other essential commodities i.e. protest against inflation. Opposition MLA's walk off on the first day of budget session to protest against inflation. When speaker rejected the demand, the opposition left the session.
AIUDF MLA Sirajuddin Ajmal said, "people are suffering because of rising prices of fuel and other commodities. But the speaker said this is a matter under central government. He rejected our demands and in protest against it, we walkout from the assembly"
Specifying disappointment over the approach congress MLA Rakibul Hussain opined, "Earlier the Assam government had promised to discuss all our issues today but when the time arrives, they refused to listen to our demands. We staged walkout from the assembly".
In support of opposition, MLA Akhil Gogoi said, "We need a discussion over the price hike issue. But the government is not ready to discuss, and speaker rejected our demands. However, we will again protest against this"
