The Centre has announced the appointment of ten new permanent judges to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, "In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri Justices." The 10 judges who have made a permanent position are Justice Suvir Sehgal, Justice Alka Sarin, Justice Jasgurpreet Singh Puri, Justice Ashok Kumar Verma, Justice Sant Parkash, Justice Meenakshi Mehta, Justice Karamjit Singh, Justice Archana Puri, Justice Vivek Puri and Justice Rajesh Bharadwaj.
The High Court has a sanctioned strength of 38 permanent and 30 additional judges, working with 45 judges only.
Along with appointment of 10 permanent judges, appointment of Uma Shanker Vyas, a judicial officer, as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court has been announced by the central government. The appointment was made following the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation from last month.
